Brief Introduction to polyester polyol
Polyester polyol is one of the core raw materials for preparing polyurethane (PU). It is obtained by dehydration condensation of dicarboxylic acids (adipic acid, phthalic anhydride, etc.) and diols (ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, etc.). The main chain of the molecule contains ester bonds (- COO -), and the end of the molecule has active hydroxyl groups (- OH). The hydroxyl groups can react with

The hydroxyl groups can react with isocyanates and solidify to form polyurethane materials.
1. Form and basic parameters
At room temperature, it is mostly a colorless to light yellow viscous liquid, and high molecular weight varieties appear as waxy solids at room temperature; The molecular weight is generally 500-5000; The core quality control indicators are hydroxyl value, acid value, moisture content, viscosity, and chromaticity; Soluble in ketone and ester solvents, insoluble in water.
2. Two mainstream types and their characteristics
Aliphatic polyester polyols (most commonly used in adipic acid series): molecular chains are flexible; The polyurethane made is wear-resistant, oil resistant, and has high mechanical strength; The disadvantage is that ester bonds are easily hydrolyzed under humid and hot conditions; Commonly used for TPU elastomers, rubber rollers, shoe soles, synthetic leather, and adhesives.
Aromatic polyester polyols (phthalic anhydride diol system): containing rigid benzene ring groups, good heat resistance, high foaming strength, low cost, but the product is prone to yellowing; It is mainly used for rigid polyurethane foam, such as refrigerator insulation layer, building insulation board and coating.
3. Advantages and disadvantages comparison (relative to polyether polyols)
Advantages: Strong polarity, better wear resistance, oil resistance, adhesion, tensile strength, and heat resistance of finished products;
Shortcoming: Poor hydrolysis resistance, materials are prone to aging and degradation in humid long-term environments, and anti hydrolysis additives are generally required in the formula.
4. Main application areas
The downstream is covered with hard foam insulation materials, TPU thermoplastic elastomer, cast polyurethane elastomer, polyurethane glue, industrial floor paint, artificial leather, seals, soles, inks, fabric coatings and other industries
